There are a few different definitions for the word “work.” As stated by Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (1442), the definition for the action of “work” is an activity in which one exerts strengths or facilities to do or perform something. The noun definition is the same as “workplace,” which is a place where work is done. People commonly use the word “work” to refer to the place where they are currently employed, though there is no actual definition of “work” in the dictionary that states that. According to Wikipedia, there is a definition of “work” referring to a place where someone is employed, but everyone knows that that’s not a very reliable source for information. In other words, work is the action or result from performing a task.
When someone says that they are going to work, that could mean two different things. It could mean that they are about to go to the place that they are employed or it could also mean that they are about to exert effort to achieve something. When most people are at their place they call “work,” they are actually performing the action definition of the word. I’m sure that since this is true, that is how that name has been adopted. When I use the word, I mostly say it to refer to the place where I am employed. Although it’s actual definition does not mean that, the English language has adapted that definition and is widely used today. When you look back in history, this word had a important impact on the world we live in today. If people did not know how to work, our country would be nothing, and we would still be living like they used to in colonial times. Through hard work, this world has become an efficient place to live, where everyone is involved and many people are happy. Work has given us the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the house we sleep in, the schools we learn in and the computers we type long papers on. Every day, people work on making our world a better place. Some people go to work to teach. Some go to a factory to help produce goods. Some might go to work to clean or feed other people. Some will go to work to save a life, or help to give birth to another. The lazy ones will not do their job, or “work,” which is not very useful at all and causes other people to stop what they are doing to fix the problem. Some problems are so intense that it could cost others millions of dollars because of the fact some people don’t work.
Working is the basis for making progress and making money. Making money is an important part of life. If you don’t have any money, you will not be able to afford to buy things such as food or a place to live. And if you do not have anything to eat, you cannot survive unless people give you donations of stuff, which they “worked” for. Working hard will give you progress and success. When progress is made, things seem to go a whole lot better.
Today, people live by the structure of the system. It is quite simple; you go to school, college, then find a good job and make a good living. All of which, require a little thing called, “work.” Work means to put forth the effort needed to lead a good life. Work will get you the luxuries you have always been dreaming about. Everything around us has been built because of the work people have done in the past. Pretty much everyone must contribute to society in some shape or form of work. Work is a very powerful word.
I consider work to be the most important part of my life. I consider it the most important part of my life because it helps me out in so many ways. Work has taught me the responsibility I need in a workplace and the right work ethics to have when I’m at work. It also has earned me the money to be able to do many of the things there are to enjoy as a teenager. Some of these things are being able to drive to school in my own car and take my girlfriend out places. Work will also allow you a lot more freedoms as you begin to find them.

Winter Narrative

I find Christmas to be one of my favorite holidays. It’s the only time of year when you and your whole family can get together and exchange gifts and have fun. Once you have a job, you are pretty much expected to buy presents for everyone, which can be fun but very expensive if you have a big family.
The first thing I did Christmas break was go to my uncle’s house. We drove down there Christmas Eve and I stayed the night there. I had a lot of fun because most of my family was there. Both of my uncles were there, my grandma, my mom, and even my aunt from California was there. It’s not very often that I any of us get to see my aunt since she moved out there last year. We watched TV, played cards, ate dinner and then opened all of our present on Christmas Eve, which was exciting. I ended up getting about 100 bucks, a couple gift cards and two pairs of jeans. After we were all done opening presents, we watched one of the new movies that my uncle got for Christmas.
On Christmas day, the girls made breakfast and we all sat down together and ate. At about noon, my girlfriend’s parents dropped her off at my uncle’s house. Then we got to play some more card games with her for a while, which was fun. We left my uncle’s house at around 2:00 or 2:30 to head back up to my dad’s house. I had more presents waiting for me there. When we arrived, I was surprised to see all of my dad’s side of the family there, both my aunts and their husbands.
Finally, I opened up all of my presents there, and was surprised yet again at what I was given. I had received about $250 cash, a couple shirts and a heater for the basement. I also gave my girlfriend her presents at that time. I got her a necklace, a Petco gift card, and a light for her fish tank. We were both very pleased with what we got for Christmas.
Christmas time was the best time of the year for me. I played cards, watch funny movies and open presents with family, which I liked very much. My favorite part of Christmas break was getting to spend time with family and the person I love most, my girlfriend. I hope next Christmas will be just as good.
